Our Story
From Hotel School of Mauritius to Loughborough
What inspired us to open Merv's Kitchen? Our story is simple - it's a blend of passion, loyalty and sacrifice. Mervin Ramsamy with 24 years in the Food and Beverage industry has always been big fans of homemade American cuisine, from grilled meat to slow-cooked classics over 15-16 hours. From the initial idea, it was developed on a daily basis with a competent team and two business partners, Hardeep Rai and Kelvin Ramsamy, which are both very passionate about food.
In terms of our team, Chef Ramona Cowling, has been a massive help. She works really hard, alongside studying at University and definitely has the passion for food, desserts are her speciality.
When the venture ended in Leicester due to my previous employer having to close the business, I was proud to have put a lot of energy into the business already and I didn’t want it to stop. Lots of our loyal customers wanted to see that concept continue in a different venue.
So, we started looking for a venue in 2022. Someone put us in touch with Colin Wilde, MD at Castle Rock Brewery. Colin was supportive and happy with our initial proposal and Loughborough was perfect for us.
The next moves were really smooth and we were in there really quickly with the help and support from Castle Rock, the staff and management at the Swan. Merv's Kitchen started in October 2022 and so far we have built a great team and continue to work together, towards the same passion.
